Crespi defets Chula Vista 52-6

On the night Jordan Simmons made his varsity debut for the Crespi Carmelite, the Celts defeated the Chula Vista Spartans 52-6. Jordan Simmons, coming off a neck injury, said that he, "had fun as his first game as a Celt". From the opening drive of the game, the Spartan defense had no answer for the Crespi air attack as the first drive ended in a forty yard touchdown reception by Devin Lucien. At the start of the second quarter, Mike Davison scored on a twenty-two yard touchdown pass. Quarterback Kenny Stenhouse was fifteen for nineteen, and threw for two hundred eighteen yards with two touchdowns. Chris Harper led the receivers with seven receptions for eighty-nine yards. Lucien had three receptions for seventy-sixty yards to add to his touchdown. The Crespi ground game featured running backs by committee. The group ran for one hundred twenty-seven yards and four touchdowns. Terry Williams had eight carries for forty-one yards. Rasheed Johnson ran for forty-nine yards on four carries and scored twice. M. Ajani Shanks added nine carries for thirty-seven yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Crespi defense inflicted punishment and caused two turnovers. In the first half, they kept the Spartan offense out of sink as multiple drives ended in three and outs. In the second half, Tyler Foreman intercepted a pass for a thirty-five yard touchdown. On the ensuing Reggie Coates recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown. Senior safety Charles Washington said the defense, “Played every play like it was our last play.”
